On the above date and approximate time Unit One turned
southbound onto Highway 71 from 460th Street, Unit Two was traveling southbound
on Highway 71 and stuck Unit 1 in the rear, Unit 3 was traveling southbound on
Highway 71 as well, behind Unit two, which then struck Unit 2 in the rear of the
vehicle.

Details of Arrest: A Clay County Deputy initiated a traffic stop with having
knowledge of the reigstered owners not having valid Iowa drivers licenses. Upon
investigation, the driver advised the Deputy he was neither of the registered
owners and advised he was Kariem Abdul-Saleem. Upon further investigation, it
was found the driver was Asman Abdul-Saleem. A check was conducted on
Abdul-Saleem's license and he was suspended. Abdul-Saleem was placed under
arrest and was transported to the Clay County Jail w/o incident. Abdul-Saleem
was charged with Failing to File S.R. Insurance (D.U.S.), Driving Under
Suspension and Providing False Information, all Simple Misdemeanors.

transported to the Clay County Jail w/o incident. Jimenez-Barajas was charged
with Speeding, No Insurance and Driving Under Suspension, all Simple
Misdemeanors. Jimenez-Barajas was released after paying a $573.75 cash bond.

Age Alcohol Party Details of Complaint: The Clay County Sheriff's Office was
called by an anonymous caller that there was an underage party at 2424 480th St.
and that minors were consuming alcohol there. At approximately 11:30pm on
Saturday February 16, 2019 Clay County Deputies, Iowa State Patrol, and Spencer
Police Department arrived to find minors consuming alcohol.
Rachel Duhn
(19) of Emmetsburg, Dustin Murtaugh (18) of Spencer, Dakota Woodard (18) of
Milford, Danika Frederick(18) of Spencer, and Sophie Smith (19) of Spencer were
cited for Possession of Alcohol Under the Age of 21. There were also 8 Juveniles
under the age of 18 were cited for Underage Alcohol Possession. One juvenile
under 18 was cited for Possession of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana). The
Juveniles were refered to Juvenile Court and released to a parent or gardian.
This incident is still under investigation and more arrests are
possible.

BRIDGE STATED HE WOULD TRY TO RUN AND ATTEMPTED TO FLEE DOWN THE HALLWAY, BUT
WAS RESTRAINED BY THE JAILER. AFTER THE JAILER RESTRAINED BRIDGE, BRIDGE WAS
STILL COMBATIVE, BUT THE JAILER WAS ABLE TO PLACE BRIDGE IN THE CELL WITHOUT
INJURY.

upon investigation, the Deputy smelled an odor of marijuana and saw a green
leafy substance, alleged to be marijuana, on Bell's pants. Bell was placed under
arrest and upon further investigation, marijuana and drug paraphernalia were
located in the vehicle. Bell was transported to the Clay County Jail w/o
incident. Bell was charged with P.C.S.-Marijuana, a Serious Misdemeanor and
Failure to Display License Plate and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, both
Simple Misdemeanors.

On Sunday, January 27, 2019 at approximately 11:10 a.m., a 911
call came into the Clay County Communication Center, reporting that a hunting
accident had occurred and a male subject had been shot, while coyote hunting. It
was determined that the male was shot, while he was sitting inside his truck.
The victim, 47 year old, Kirk Struve, from Granville, Iowa was taken to Buena
Vista Regional Medical center where he was deceased, upon arrival. This
hunting accident was turned over to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and
is still under investigation.
The Clay County Sheriff's Office was
assisted by the Iowa DNR, Royal Rescue, Spencer Ambulance.

of Arrest: The Clay County Sheriff's Office conducted a Dickinson County arrest
warrant check for Rutter at Barb's Corner and was unsuccessful. Rutter later
contacted a Clay County Deputy and turned himself in at the Clay County
Sheriff's Office. Rutter was served with the warrant and was released on a

Arrest: While on routine patrol in Everly a Clay County Deputy observed a
traffic violation of a vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle and
through investigation it was determined that Smith was under the influence of
alcohol. Smith was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Clay
County Jail where he was held to appear before a magistrate.

in the 3500 mile of 240th Avenue and lost traction due to the icy road
conditions. Unit 1 started to slide and attempted to correct the sliding and
slid into the west ditch, struck a tree and came to rest facing west.

ACCIDENT DETAILS
On January 23, 2019 at approximately 03:41 hours, the Clay County Sheriff’s
Office was called to the 2300 mile of 420th Street in reference to a single
vehicle accident that involved personal injury. Upon investigation, it was
determined that a 1992 Chevrolet S10, driven by Cole Millard, was traveling
eastbound, when he lost control of the vehicle and entered the South ditch. The
vehicle rolled an unknown number of times, resulting in Millard being ejected
from the vehicle, the vehicle came to rest on its top. Millard was pronounced
deceased at the scene. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Dickens
Fire and Rescue, Spencer Ambulance, Warner Funeral Home, and Buds Service.

Container, Parking Violation Details of Arrest: Clay County Deputy was on
routine patrol in Peterson on 1/21/19 at approximately 12:30AM and noticed a
suspicious vehicle coming off a property with an abandon house. The deputy
attempted to catch up to the vehicle however the vehicle turned off Hwy 10 and
onto a side street. When the deputy turned the corner the truck was found parked
in the middle of the roadway, was shut off and no occupants in the vehicle. When
the deputy walked up to the truck there were several beer cans in the truck
along with a dog that was left. Through investigation it was determined that
Gunnerson and Herrig were the occupants in the vehicle and fled on foot. On
1/23/19 both Gunnerson and Herrig came to the jail and met with the deputy.
Gunnerson was charged with Supplying alcohol to a minor, open container and a
parking violation. Herrig was charged with Minor in possession of alcohol. Both
later bonded out.

ON JANUARY 14, 2019 APPROXIMATELY 9:30 PM,
THE CLAY COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE WAS CALLED TO THE 2400 MILE OF 340TH ST OF A
VEHICLE IN THE DITCH. UPON INVESTIGATION, IT WAS DETERMINE THAT A 2007 LEXUS
DRIVEN BY A JUVENILE FEMALE WAS TRAVELING EAST IN THE 2400 MILE OF 340TH ST WHEN
THE VEHICLE ENTERED THE NORTH DITCH, CAUSING HEAVY FRONT END DAMAGE. THE AIR
BAGS DEPLOYED FROM THE IMPACT. BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SUSTAINED MINOR
INJURIES. THE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE IS ESTIMATED TO BE APPROXIMATELY $4,500. THE
DRIVER WAS CITIED FOR FAILURE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL.

located along with 2 unprocessed marijuana plants that the above subjects were
growing inside a closet. Both were placed under arrest and transported to the
Clay County Jail. The Clay County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Spencer
Police Department.

stop for a traffic violation. The Deputy asked for assistance from the K-9
handler and upon his arrival, a K-9 sniff was conducted which resulted in an
alert. A search of the vehicle resulted in drug paraphernalia being located.
Cavin was placed under arrest and was transported to the Clay County Jail w/o
incident. Cavin was charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a Simple
Misdemeanor and was held on $300.00 cash or surety bond.

INJURIES
Both Callsen and Larson were
transported to the Spencer Hospital and later air lifted to Sioux Falls for the
injuries sustained in the accident.

was Eastbound in the 2800 block of Highway 18, vehicle 2 was Westbound. Vehicle
2 crossed the center line and collided head on with vehicle 1. The drivers were
the only occupants of each vehicle.

Domestic Assault Causing Bodily Injury Details of Arrest: The Clay County
Sheriff's Office was dispatched to 3655 240th Ave #33 for a report of a domestic
assault in progress. The Clay County Sheriff's Office along with the Spencer
Police Department reponded. It was determined that Robert Sports assaulted his
wife causing bodily injury. Robert also assaulted a minor child in the
residence. No injuries to the child were reported. Robert was located by the
Spencer Police Department and arrested for OWI.
The Clay County
Sheriff's Office Charged Robert with 3 separate counts of Child Endangerment
which are Aggrevated Misdemeanors as well as Domestic Assault a Serious
Misdemeanor
